KUSKOP Adds RM1 Million for Sarawak Rural Market Projects

BAU, 17 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (KUSKOP) has announced an additional RM1 million for five new construction and upgrading projects under the Tamu Desa initiative in the Mas Gading parliamentary constituency.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister YB Encik Steven Sim Chee Keong announced the allocation during a working visit to the Tamu Desa development project at Kampung Grogo in Bau, Sarawak.

The additional funding is aimed at expanding business opportunities and stimulating economic activity among rural communities.

Steven Sim also conducted walkabouts at several other Tamu Desa project locations, including Pasar Tamu Tembawang Sauh, Pusat Penjaja Jalan Depo, Pasar Sukma Ria and Pending Jetty Hawker Centre.

From 2024 to 31 August 2026, a total of 61 Tamu Desa projects involving RM13 million in allocations have been implemented in Sarawak.

With the additional RM1 million for the five projects in Mas Gading, KUSKOP’s total commitment to Tamu Desa projects in Sarawak between 2024 and 2026 has increased to RM14 million.

The initiative seeks to strengthen the micro-entrepreneurship ecosystem by providing better business facilities while supporting traders’ incomes and local economic activity in rural communities.

Also present were Deputy Youth and Sports Minister and Mas Gading MP YB Encik Mordi Bimol; Bandar Kuching MP and Political Secretary to the KUSKOP Minister YB Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen; UDA Holdings Berhad Chief Executive Officer YBhg. Dato’ Sri Ahmad Fuaad bin Kenali; and KUSKOP Deputy Secretary-General (Entrepreneur Development) YBhg. Datuk Saidatu Akhma binti Hassan.
