KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat sitting today will discuss the issues linked to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Malaysia and Indonesia on the recruitment of workers from the republic.

It will also discuss the mechanisms the government will adopt to finance the total amount of subsidies.
According to today’s Order Paper, the MoU will be raised during question time by Loke Siew Fook (PH-Seremban), who wants the human resources minister to explain why the government had failed to comply with the agreement, which forced Indonesia to temporarily freeze sending its workers.
Wong Hon Wai (PH-Bukit Bendera) will also ask the finance minister how the government is going to finance the subsidies, expected to reach RM80 billion this year, and what subsidy reforms are being planned.

Other questions will include the status of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, the high-speed rail (HSR), the Pan Borneo Highway, MRT, and new expressways being constructed to reduce congestion, especially during holiday and festive seasons.
The MPs will also continue their debate on the Offenders Compulsory Attendance (Amendment) Bill 2021.
The new meeting of the Dewan Rakyat, which began yesterday, will last 12 days until Aug 4.-BERNAMA
