PUTRAJAYA, 15 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is accelerating its shift towards a paperless, AI-enabled public sector after government agencies recorded savings of 123,325 reams of paper worth RM1.48 million in August alone.
From May to August, cumulative savings reached 482,940 reams valued at RM5.79 million, reflecting progress in efforts to reduce paper use across government operations.
The figures were highlighted during the third Digital Government Meeting of 2026, chaired by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar on Monday (14 September).
The meeting focused on accelerating public sector digitalisation, expanding the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and fostering greater innovation in government service delivery.

The transformation is being driven through the Public Sector Digitalisation Plan (RPSA) 2026–2030, which provides the main direction for implementing government digitalisation comprehensively through a Whole-of-Government approach.
The Digital Ministry is responsible for setting the direction of public sector digitalisation, coordinating the implementation of RPSA 2026–2030 and expanding the adoption of AI and other digital technologies across government.
These efforts are aimed at delivering measurable improvements in public services while building a more digital, agile and technology-ready civil service as Malaysia moves towards its AI Nation 2030 ambition.
Also present were Director-General of Public Service Tan Sri Dr. Wan Ahmad Dahlan bin Haji Abdul Aziz and Digital Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar.
