KUALA LUMPUR, 11 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is leading regional efforts to strengthen health preparedness and build more equitable, future-ready healthcare systems as it chairs the 17th ASEAN Health Ministers’ Meeting (AHMM) and Related Meetings.
Health Minister YB Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad officiated the biennial meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, bringing together health ministers from ASEAN member states, international dialogue partners and representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Held under the theme “Healthy ASEAN: Together Towards Equitable, Future-Ready Health Systems”, the meeting sees Malaysia serving as Chair with Myanmar as Vice-Chair.
In his opening address, Dzulkefly stressed that strong preparedness at every level is key to strengthening regional health security.
Guided by Malaysia MADANI values, he said Malaysia is committed to leading efforts to develop ASEAN health systems that are both future-ready and equitable.

The 17th AHMM also reflects ASEAN member states’ continued commitment to strengthening global health diplomacy and developing concrete measures to safeguard the health and wellbeing of people across the region.
Also present were Health Ministry Secretary-General YBhg. Datuk Seri Hj. Hasnol Zam Zam bin Hj. Ahmad; Health Director-General YBhg. Datuk Dr. Mahathar bin Abd Wahab; Deputy Secretary-General (Management) YBrs. Puan Noor Afifah binti Abdul Razak; and Deputy Director-General of Health (Public Health) YBrs. Dr. Ismuni bin Bohari.
