KUALA LUMPUR, 5 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Energy transition, digital transformation and economic growth must move in tandem to ensure Malaysia remains competitive in the evolving global economy, according to Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
Speaking during the Ministerial Dialogue session at The Energy Transitions Conference on 4 June, Akmal Nasrullah emphasised the importance of accelerating both energy transition and digitalisation efforts to support the development of high-value industries.
The dialogue also featured Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Fadillah Yusof and Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
During the discussion, the Economy Minister highlighted the need for Malaysia to strengthen its future industrial ecosystem by supporting sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), data centres, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and clean energy technologies.
He noted that the government’s economic planning frameworks, including the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR), are aimed at ensuring strategic investments deliver tangible economic benefits.
According to him, these initiatives are designed to create high-quality employment opportunities while enhancing the competitiveness of local industries.

Akmal Nasrullah also stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in accelerating sustainable and inclusive energy transition efforts. He said the government remains committed to encouraging private sector participation through strategic collaborations and prioritising high-impact projects.
Looking ahead to 2030, Malaysia aims to position itself as a regional hub for digital industries, supported by an innovation-driven economy, secure energy supply chains and an inclusive digital ecosystem.
The minister added that the MADANI Government remains committed to ensuring that high-value economic growth translates into meaningful and shared prosperity for all segments of society.
