GONG BADAK, 30 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – National security is a shared responsibility that requires society to understand threats based on facts rather than perceptions or sentiments, said Home Ministry (KDN) Secretary-General YBhg. Datuk Dr. Awang Alik bin Jeman.
He said this today when officiating the launch of the book Keselamatan Malaysia: Persepsi dan Realiti at Dewan Al-Mukhtafi Billah Shah, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), in conjunction with the 2026 East Coast Book Festival.
“National security is a shared responsibility. Society needs to understand every threat based on facts, not merely perceptions or sentiments,” he said.
The book is the result of a strategic collaboration between the Malaysian Institute of Public Security (IPSOM), UniSZA, academics and officers from various government agencies, based on findings from the Security Perception Index Study.
It brings together academic perspectives, data and practical experiences to provide a more comprehensive overview of the country’s security and public order landscape.
Among the key issues highlighted are national cohesion, 3R issues, crime patterns and trends, drug abuse, undocumented migrants, cross-border organised crime, protection of strategic infrastructure, as well as integrity in security management and law enforcement.

The book also comes as the country faces an increasingly complex threat landscape influenced by digital developments.
In addressing these challenges, continued synergy between the Government, academia, industry and the public is important to strengthen public understanding, build national resilience and safeguard the country’s peace and security.
Also present were UniSZA Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), YBrs. Professor Teknologis Dr. Shukor bin Abd Razak; Terengganu Police Chief, YDH. DCP Dato’ Mohd Khairi bin Khairudin; IPSOM Chief Executive, YBrs. Puan Faizah binti Jaarudin; and UniSZA Publisher Director, Prof. Dr. Normadiah binti Daud.
