Education director-general Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali said the GPN for 2022 is 4.74 compared to 4.86 in 2021, adding that a lower number means a better score.

“The SPM 2022 candidates did better than SPM 2021,” he said when announcing the results for SPM 2022 on Thursday (June 8).

He also said this is the first cohort where more than 90% of the candidates qualify to receive their SPM certificate.

He said 91.6% qualify for the certificate as they had passed both Bahasa Melayu and History.

He added that over 403,000 candidates sat for the national exams in 3,355 examination centres nationwide this year.
