PUTRAJAYA, 19 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is stepping up efforts to develop its rare earth elements (REE) industry, with a focus on domestic processing capacity, responsible resource management and environmental sustainability.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister YB Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup and ministry Secretary-General YBhg. Datuk Wira Anis Rizana binti Mohd Zainudin met Liannex Rare Earth Resources Sdn. Bhd. Chairman Encik Lim Han Weng at the NRES headquarters in Putrajaya on Friday (18 September).
Discussions focused on developments in the REE industry and initiatives aimed at strengthening an ecosystem considered strategically important to the country.
The meeting also covered the development of domestic processing capacity, responsible mineral resource management and compliance with regulatory requirements.

NRES said the development of the sector should take into account the country’s economic and environmental interests while ensuring resources are explored and managed in a planned and responsible manner.
Also present were Deputy Secretary-General (Natural Resources) YBhg. Dato’ Khalid bin Mohamed; Mineral and Geoscience Division Secretary YBrs. Tuan Haji Shamsul Shahril Badliza bin Mohd Noor; and Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia Director-General YBhg. Datuk Zamri bin Ramli.
