CHERAS, 18 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is strengthening its investigative capabilities through forensic science and artificial intelligence (AI) to support more effective evidence-based criminal investigations.
Inspector-General of Police IG Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Hj. Mohd Khalid Hj. Ismail officiated the two-day 7th National Forensic Science Symposium for Law Enforcement (NAFSLE) 2026 at Dewan Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Royal Malaysia Police College Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday (17 September).
Held under the theme “Forensic: AI Connecting The Dots”, the symposium focuses on the role of AI in enhancing forensic analysis and supporting investigations based on scientific evidence.
Organised by the DNA Databank Investigation Division (D13) of Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), NAFSLE 2026 brings together forensic experts, investigating officers, academics and legal practitioners to exchange knowledge and explore technology-driven approaches and innovations.
Mohd Khalid said the symposium serves as an important platform for strengthening PDRM’s capabilities through the sharing of expertise, experience and the latest developments in forensic science.
He also stressed that the adoption of new technology must be accompanied by high standards of integrity and professional ethics.

The event also featured the DNA Hit of The Year 2026 awards, recognising investigating officers for their use of DNA evidence in strengthening criminal investigations.
Inspector Nor Idayu Abdul Aziz of the South Klang District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Selangor took first place, followed by Inspector Wan Ahmad Fahmi Wan Iskandar of Muallim IPD, Perak, in second place and Sergeant Amran Ismail of Seremban IPD, Negeri Sembilan, in third.
Also present were National Disaster Management Agency Director-General Dato’ Meor Ismail Meor Akim; CID Director CP Datuk M. Kumar S. Muthuvelu, who served as adviser to the organising committee; and PDRM directors.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), NAFSLE 2026 aims to strengthen the force’s ability to conduct more accurate, efficient and evidence-based investigations in line with technological developments and modern law enforcement needs. – The Capital Post
