GEORGE TOWN: The state government will implement a targeted Covid-19 mass screening programme in the community, called Penang Covid-19 Screening (PSC-19), from Monday.

Chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the PSC-19 at the Penang City Stadium will start in stages with residents of Sungai Pinang, Padang Kota, Dato Keramat and Pulau Tikus the first to be screened.

“The PSC-19 programme is fully financed by the Penang government and it will use the RTK-Antigen method.

“Other than dealing with the respective state assembly offices, a website is being developed to enable Penangites to register for the tests,” he said via a live broadcast on his official Facebook page today.

He also appealed to the National Security Council (MKN) to consider using the threshold value indicator of every state, and not the national-level indicator, in deciding the transition to Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (PPN) for states.

“This is because every state has and is facing different case infection rates, which require a special consideration in deciding further strategies that need to be implemented,” he said.

Chow acknowledged that states which succeeded in transitioning to Phase Two would still need to boost enforcement and compliance of the SOPs in order to move to the next phase.

Meanwhile, Chow said Penang would receive 591,532 doses of vaccines from July 5 to July 28 under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

As such, he hoped Penang would be able to achieve the three targets, namely 10% of the population to be administered with both doses of the vaccine, vaccination of registered senior citizens aged 60 and above; and vaccination of registered recipients aged 60 and below.- BERNAMA
