KUALA LUMPUR, 2 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Economy Minister YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah visited the Perlis Big Clock Tower, which has been proposed for refurbishment into a Royal Gallery accessible to the public and tourists.
The proposed initiative aims to preserve the state’s heritage while creating a new tourism attraction and strengthening awareness of Perlis’ history and identity.
The Perlis Big Clock Tower was gazetted as a heritage building on 24 February 2011. The historic building was inspired by the fourth Raja of Perlis, the late Tuanku Syed Alwi Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Safi Jamalullail.

The Ministry of Economy said development efforts should continue alongside heritage preservation, the strengthening of local identity and tourism sector development for the benefit of the public and future generations.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Ekonomi, the proposed Royal Gallery reflects efforts to balance development with the preservation of Perlis’ historical heritage and the creation of new tourism opportunities. – The Capital Post
