PUTRAJAYA, 24 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has outlined measures to help households better understand and manage electricity bills, including the expansion of the domestic consumer protection zone from 600 kWh to 800 kWh per month.
PETRA, in collaboration with Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia (JAPEN) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), held a special briefing on 23 September to address issues surrounding electricity bills that have drawn public attention.
The briefing covered factors affecting electricity consumption and billing, the cost adjustment mechanism and government measures aimed at protecting domestic consumers.
For electricity usage from 1 September to 31 December 2026, the domestic consumer protection zone has been expanded from 600 kWh to 800 kWh per month.
PETRA said the measure is expected to benefit more than eight million domestic consumers.

Consumers were also encouraged to monitor electricity consumption through the myTNB application, practise efficient electricity use and consider the Time-of-Use (ToU) tariff where suitable for their consumption patterns.
The briefing was delivered by TNB Senior General Manager (Regulatory Economics), Regulatory and Stakeholder Management Division Osman bin Mohammad Sany; Senior Manager (Charges and Tariffs), Retail Division Nazreen Omar; and Head of Strategic Communications Anita Perumal.
PETRA said it would continue strengthening public communication to ensure information related to electricity bills is clearly and accurately understood.
