PUTRAJAYA, 4 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The public sector is shifting its focus from adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to using the technology to drive productivity, reduce repetitive work and improve public service delivery.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar said this while officiating the closing ceremony of the Public Sector AI Seminar 2026 and the Public Sector AI Nexus Challenge (PSAINC) 2026 awards ceremony yesterday.
The programme, organised by the Ministry of Digital through the National Digital Department (JDN) in collaboration with AI Malaysia Berhad, brought together about 250 public sector participants to strengthen AI adoption in addressing real-world public service delivery challenges.
Through PSAINC 2026, 40 teams comprising 120 participants from various public sector agencies developed AI-based solutions based on actual operational needs.
The initiative aims to improve productivity, accelerate processes and deliver more effective public services.
The shift reflects a broader focus on ensuring AI produces measurable productivity gains, including reducing repetitive tasks, shortening processes and enabling civil servants to concentrate on higher-value responsibilities.

The approach is also aligned with the Negara AI 2030 aspiration to build a more agile, innovative and citizen-oriented public sector.
The programme highlighted that the success of AI should be measured not only by technological advancement, but also by the impact and benefits experienced by the public.
Also present were Digital Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar; Deputy Secretary-General (Digital Development) Encik MA. Sivanesan; National Digital Department Director-General Ts. Nik Zalbiha binti Nik Mat; and Innovation Director and AI Malaysia Berhad chief Encik Mohd Alhafidz Yahya.
