KOTA KINABALU, 10 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- The Sabah government plans to advance its blue economy initiatives while ensuring stronger security measures across its maritime zones, according to Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.

Hajiji said the state aims to harness the economic potential of its vast marine resources while maintaining strict security in its waters to safeguard national interests and protect economic activities.

He noted that Sabah’s coastal and marine areas offer significant opportunities for sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, marine tourism and renewable ocean energy, all of which form part of the broader blue economy strategy.

At the same time, the state government will continue to work closely with federal enforcement agencies to enhance surveillance and security across Sabah’s waters, particularly in areas prone to cross-border crime.

Hajiji stressed that strengthening maritime security remains crucial to ensuring the sustainability of economic activities in the state’s maritime zones and protecting the livelihoods of local communities that depend on the sea.

He added that a balanced approach between economic development and security will help Sabah maximise the benefits of its marine resources while ensuring long-term stability in the region.-The Capital Post
