After several exam postponements, school closures and learning from home, some 400, 000 Form Five students will get their results at 10am on Thursday (June 10).

An hour before the results are released online – a first in the country’s history – the overall results analysis will be presented by Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin

Students – and their equally anxious parents – are already hanging onto their phones and digital devices, waiting with bated breath to check their results.

It is bound to be a nerve-wracking experience for them as these candidates had endured nearly an entire school year of home-based learning, which is not exactly the most conducive for exam preparations.

Plenty had resorted to learning on their own as they had limited access to a normal classroom environment where revisions could be done easily without the need to set “appointments.”

Today also marks the first time in Malaysia’s history that candidates will see their results for the important public exams pop up on a screen instead of a perforated piece of paper.

There will be no screams of joy or shedding tears of sadness with friends – at least not physically together – for this group of students as the lockdown keeps them safely away from gathering in school or anywhere else.

Instead, each of them will be glimpsing their results for the first time together with their families at home.

As for those who do not have access to the Internet or digital devices, they can still see the summary of their results via SMS or they can contact their respective schools.

It has been a long, hard journey for these teenagers but they can take pride that no matter what their results are, they are the first bunch of Malaysians to sit for a public exam during a pandemic.-The Star
