KUALA LUMPUR 17 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – Sunway Construction Group Bhd (SunCon) has secured a RM1.75 billion contract to build a hyperscale data centre in Bandar Serendah, Selangor, marking another major win in Malaysia’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure sector.

Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2028, according to the filing and industry updates.

The contract further strengthens SunCon’s position as a key player in Malaysia’s data centre construction space, following multiple similar projects in recent years, including large-scale jobs awarded by global technology companies. The group has built a growing track record in advanced technology facilities such as hyperscale data centres across Malaysia. (turn0search3)

Analysts say the latest win reflects continued strong demand for data centre infrastructure in Malaysia, driven by global cloud computing expansion and artificial intelligence workloads, which are increasing the need for high-capacity digital facilities in the region.

The project is also expected to contribute positively to SunCon’s future earnings visibility, although it will not have an immediate material impact on the company’s current financial year performance.

With its latest contract win, SunCon’s outstanding order book continues to remain at a strong level, reinforcing its role in supporting Malaysia’s position as a growing regional hub for data centre investments. -The Capital Post
