Through this accomplishment, the university has jumped 13 places from 124th position last year and once again emerged as the nation’s top private university.

“The achievement is one of the testaments that UTP is very determined in delivering its commitment towards all our stakeholders, especially our parent company Petronas, students, parents, sponsors and collaborators,” said UTP vice-chancellor Prof Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib in a statement today.

He said UTP had re-engineered the university’s research strategic focus, and this in turn has had a better impact on its publications. It has also produced niche commercial applications and entered into more strategic partnerships with universities and industries in the region.

“As part of the Petronas group, we also see significant opportunities by aligning our initiatives to support Petronas’ current and future businesses as well as its sustainability agenda,” he added.

Ibrahim said the university’s attainment would elevate UTP’s business outlook and strengthen its financial sustainability, which will be crucial for the university’s continued success.

He said UTP had consistently done well in national rankings and ratings, such as Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Malaysia Research Assessment Rating System (MyRA) and Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education (Setara).
