KUALA LUMPUR, 30 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – A total of 120 fatal road accidents recorded between 2023 and June 2026 were caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Data from the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) showed that 94 of the fatal cases involved drug-impaired drivers, while the remaining 26 were linked to drunk driving.
JSPT Director CP Dato’ Sri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said the department remains committed to enforcing laws against impaired driving through continuous nationwide operations.
He said directives are issued weekly to all JSPT officers and personnel to conduct Op Mabuk, with no police contingent exempted from the enforcement exercise.

Muhammed Hasbullah noted that the statistics indicate a persistent trend of fatal crashes involving intoxicated drivers, prompting the police to intensify enforcement efforts, including roadblocks and targeted operations.
He added that many road users still fail to recognise the dangers of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, suggesting that offenders either underestimate the risks or perceive existing penalties as insufficient to deter such offences.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Polis Diraja Malaysia (Royal Malaysia Police), PDRM will continue strengthening enforcement efforts to improve road safety and reduce fatalities caused by impaired driving. – The Capital Post
