Kuala Lumpur, 23 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – In line with an announcement by the Prime Minister during the Malaysia Budget 2026 tabling on 10 October 2025, the Malaysian Highway Authority (Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia, LLM) is strengthening highway safety measures through the implementation of solar-powered LED street lighting at high-risk accident locations across tolled highways nationwide.
This was highlighted following the attendance of Works Minister, YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, at the ceremony for the handover of Letters of Acceptance for the appointment of contractors for the proposed installation works of solar-powered LED street lights. Four contractors were appointed during the event.
According to information from the Kementerian Kerja Raya Malaysia, the selection of locations was based on accident blackspots and areas with high accident severity rates, identified through night-time crash data analysis.
Through this initiative, a total of 3,000 solar-powered LED street light units will be installed across 32 locations on major highways nationwide. These include sections along the North–South Expressway (E1) in the northern region between the Sungai Buloh Interchange and Gurun Interchange, as well as the southern stretch between Senawang Interchange and Pedas Linggi Interchange.
