KUALA LUMPUR, 8 May 2026 (The Capital Post)— Malaysia reaffirmed its strong commitment to strengthening ASEAN unity in addressing increasingly complex global challenges, particularly geopolitical crises that directly impact energy security, food security and regional supply chain stability.
In a statement shared on the official Facebook page of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, he said during the 48th ASEAN Summit today that no country can face the current global uncertainties alone, stressing that collective cooperation and regional solidarity within ASEAN must continue to be strengthened.
Malaysia also voiced support for accelerating the ASEAN Power Grid initiative, enhancing regional petroleum security mechanisms, and expanding strategic cooperation networks, including through ASEAN-GCC-China collaboration, to ensure long-term energy resilience.
On food security, ASEAN was urged to take stronger measures through the coordination of emergency food stockpiles and the strengthening of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) mechanism to reduce the region’s exposure to food inflation and supply disruptions.
