BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (The Capital Post) — Brunei’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that Muslims across the Sultanate will hold congregational Sunnat Lunar Eclipse prayers on Tuesday in conjunction with a total lunar eclipse, encouraging the faithful to gather at mosques, suraus and religious halls for special prayer observances.
The full lunar eclipse is expected to take place on March 3, 2026, with the Moon passing completely into Earth’s shadow — a rare astronomical event that also attracts skywatchers across the region.
Under the directives from the Mosque Affairs Department, the nationwide eclipse prayer will be held after the Isyak congregational prayer, with the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital designated as a focal point for larger gatherings. Muslims are encouraged to participate in the Sunnat prayer tradition associated with celestial phenomena, which holds spiritual significance in Islamic practice.

The Brunei government’s call for prayer comes as the rare lunar spectacle is not only a moment for religious reflection but also an opportunity for community observance under the night sky — blending tradition with one of nature’s striking astronomical displays. – The Capital Post
