GEORGE TOWN, 3 March 2026 (The Capital Post) — Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid, the Deputy Chief Minister I of Penang and state PKR chairman, has continued recording his statement with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for a second consecutive day, as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations involving the use of zakat funds in a land purchase.
Mohamad Abdul Hamid arrived at the MACC headquarters on Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah at about 9.10am on Tuesday (March 3), returning to continue the questioning after spending around seven hours at the same office on Monday (March 2).
The prolonged questioning centres on allegations of abuse of power related to the alleged purchase of land using zakat funds — a matter first raised in the Penang State Assembly late last year. Although details about the probe have not been publicly disclosed, MACC investigators are understood to be gathering evidence and recording statements from those involved.
So far, MACC has recorded statements from a total of 63 individuals in connection with the investigation, demonstrating the breadth of witness engagement as the commission seeks to establish facts about the allegations.

No formal charges have been announced, and both MACC and Mohamad Abdul Hamid have maintained that he is cooperating fully with the investigation. Officials have neither confirmed the specific legal provisions under review nor provided a timeline for the completion of the process.
The case has attracted attention both within Penang’s political circles and among the public, with some observers noting that the probe raises questions about governance and accountability in the management of religious and public funds.-The Capital Post
