JAKARTA, 6 March 2026 (The Capital Post)— Indonesia has signalled it may withdraw from the international “Board of Peace” initiative if the platform fails to deliver meaningful benefits for the Palestinian cause.
President Prabowo Subianto conveyed the stance during a meeting with Islamic clerics and community leaders at the Presidential Palace, where he reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestinian independence.
According to Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) deputy chairman Cholil Nafis, Prabowo emphasised that Jakarta’s participation in the board is intended to advance the goal of an independent Palestinian state.
“Regarding the Board of Peace, the president is determined to direct it toward Palestinian independence. He is ready to withdraw if the council fails to advocate for this cause,” Nafis told reporters after the gathering.
The Board of Peace is an international diplomatic initiative aimed at promoting stability and reconstruction efforts in Gaza following prolonged conflict in the region.
Indonesian officials have maintained that the country’s involvement in the platform must align with its longstanding foreign policy of supporting Palestinian sovereignty and a two-state solution.

Some political and religious figures in Indonesia have questioned the effectiveness of the Board of Peace, arguing that it may not be the most appropriate avenue for advancing Palestinian independence.
Members of the Indonesian Ulema Council have also suggested that Jakarta consider strengthening engagement through other international platforms such as the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation if the board fails to deliver concrete progress.
Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, has consistently advocated for Palestinian self-determination and has frequently voiced support for diplomatic solutions aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza and establishing a sovereign Palestinian state.
Officials say Indonesia’s participation in international initiatives related to Gaza will ultimately depend on whether they contribute meaningfully to peace, stability and the realisation of Palestinian independence.-The Capital Post
