KATHMANDU 26 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- An investigative panel in Nepal has recommended legal action against former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli over alleged failures that led to deadly violence during anti-corruption protests led by Generation Z in September 2025.

The commission, tasked with reviewing the unrest that contributed to Oli’s removal from office, found that he did not act to prevent the shooting incidents that killed at least 19 young protesters on the first day and left many others injured.

According to the report, the two days of clashes between demonstrators and security forces resulted in 76 deaths and more than 2,500 injuries, with the panel holding Oli responsible as the head of government for both the good and bad outcomes of his administration’s actions.

The panel also called for prosecution of Oli’s former home minister and the police chief at the time, citing their failure to control the situation before it escalated into widespread violence.

These findings are expected to intensify debates over accountability for the crackdown and may influence upcoming legal proceedings, as Nepal continues to grapple with the repercussions of the Gen Z-led protests.-The Capital Post
