KUALA LUMPUR 30 March 2026 (The Capital Post) – The National Unity Ministry is in the process of drafting new guidelines aimed at preventing Members of Parliament (MPs) from raising sensitive issues involving race, religion and royalty (3R) during debates in the Dewan Rakyat.
Deputy Minister R. Yuneswaran said the proposed guidelines will be submitted to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul in the near future, stressing that elected representatives must act responsibly despite having parliamentary immunity.
He emphasised that while MPs are protected when speaking in Parliament, they should avoid statements that could incite tension or anger among the public, particularly on matters touching on 3R sensitivities.
Yuneswaran added that all parties, including politicians, should instead prioritise national development and the well-being of the people, rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.

He also expressed support for proposals to introduce a National Harmony Act and the possible establishment of a Harmony Commission, noting that both initiatives are still in the early stages of discussion and require further backing from the government.
The move reflects ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen national unity and curb sensitive discourse that could threaten harmony in Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society.-The Capital Post
