Beijing 27 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – China has been identified as a new growth engine in the global education market, according to a recent think tank report highlighting the country’s expanding influence and appeal among international students.

The report, released by the Xinhua Institute, noted that traditional leaders in international education are gradually losing dominance, while emerging destinations such as China, South Korea and Japan are gaining traction among students worldwide.

Driven by a national strategy to strengthen its education system, China has accelerated efforts to modernise institutions and align academic development with broader economic and social progress. This approach has helped build a strong foundation for attracting students from abroad.

The study also highlighted a rapid expansion in China’s global education network, with the country establishing partnerships with 183 countries and regions, alongside mutual recognition agreements on academic qualifications with 61 nations. In addition, dozens of joint education programmes have been introduced to enhance cross-border collaboration.

As a result, China’s “Study in China” initiative has gained significant international recognition, supported by improved academic offerings, broader exchange opportunities and enhanced support services for foreign students.

Analysts say the country’s growing education ecosystem, combined with competitive costs and increasing academic quality, is positioning China as an increasingly attractive destination for global learners seeking alternative study options.

The report concluded that China’s expanding role in international education is expected to strengthen further, contributing to deeper cultural exchange and global cooperation in the years ahead.-The Capital Post
