Bangkok 4 May 2026 (The Capital Post) – Authorities in Thailand have issued an urgent heat warning after Bangkok’s heat index surged beyond 52°C, placing the capital under “extreme danger” conditions and prompting strong safety advisories for residents.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said the heat index reading had crossed a critical threshold, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke, dehydration and fainting, especially among vulnerable groups including the elderly and outdoor workers.
Officials have urged the public to avoid all unnecessary outdoor activities, particularly during peak daytime hours, as prolonged exposure to such conditions could become life-threatening. Emergency medical services have also been placed on heightened alert as temperatures continue to remain at dangerous levels.
The extreme heat comes as Thailand continues to experience a prolonged hot season, with meteorological reports warning that heat index levels above 52°C may persist intermittently across parts of the country during this period.

Health authorities have also reminded residents to stay hydrated, seek shaded or air-conditioned environments, and monitor early symptoms of heat stress such as dizziness, fatigue and rapid heartbeat.
The warning adds to growing concerns across Southeast Asia, where rising temperatures and humidity levels have intensified heatwave conditions in recent years, placing additional pressure on public health systems.
Officials said updates will be issued regularly as conditions evolve, with continued monitoring of heat levels across Bangkok and surrounding regions.-The Capital Post
