Health Minister Concludes Melaka Visit with Inspection of Alor Gajah Hospital

MELAKA, 8 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad concluded his working visit to Melaka with a final stop at Alor Gajah Hospital, where he reviewed the facility’s operations and ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare service delivery.

According to information shared by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia on its official Facebook page, the minister was welcomed by Alor Gajah Hospital Director Dr. Ahmad Helmi Hamdan, who delivered a briefing on the hospital’s operations, services and development plans.

Established in 1906, Alor Gajah Hospital has undergone significant transformation over the years to meet the growing healthcare needs of the local community. The current hospital building has been in operation since 2013 and has a capacity of 107 beds.

As part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery, the hospital was upgraded and began operating as a Type 3 Cluster Hospital on 21 January 2025, enabling it to expand its role in providing specialist medical services to the surrounding population.

The hospital has also evolved from a district facility without specialist services into a healthcare institution equipped with resident specialists in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Critical Care and Pathology.

During the visit, Dr. Dzulkefly toured the hospital premises to inspect its facilities and infrastructure. He also spent time engaging with healthcare personnel and patients, recognising the contributions of frontline medical workers in delivering quality healthcare services.

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring quality, equitable and inclusive healthcare services for all Malaysians through continuous improvements in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development and service delivery.

Also present during the visit were Deputy Chief Secretary (Finance) of the Ministry of Health, Dato’ Sri Zahrul Hakim Abdullah; Director of the Medical Development Division, Dr. Nor Hayati Ibrahim; Melaka State Health Director, Dr. Husnina Ibrahim; and members of the senior management team of the Melaka State Health Department.
