PUTRAJAYA, 12 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Election Commission (SPR) has officially announced the key dates for the 16th Johor State Election and the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election following a special meeting held at its headquarters in Seberang Perai.
The commission confirmed that both states will not hold their elections simultaneously, with Johor heading to the polls in July while Negeri Sembilan voters will cast their ballots in August.
For Johor, the State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 2. Nomination Day has been set for June 27, followed by early voting on July 7 and polling on July 11. A total of 56 state seats will be contested.
In Negeri Sembilan, the State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 5. Candidates will be nominated on July 18, while early voting is scheduled for July 28 and polling day on August 1. The election will involve contests for 36 state assembly seats.
SPR said the elections will be conducted using the latest electoral rolls, incorporating supplementary voter lists up to April 2026. The rolls were updated until May 10, 2026 for Johor and June 4, 2026 for Negeri Sembilan.
Postal voting applications for Johor opened on June 5, while applications for Negeri Sembilan began today. Eligible voters may submit their applications online through the MySPR portal.

The commission also confirmed that applications to change voting centres have been closed for voters in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. However, voters in other states may continue to apply for polling centre changes within the stipulated one-month period.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, SPR has appointed 52 election management officers for Johor and eight for Negeri Sembilan, supported by hundreds of assistant officers. Special monitoring teams will also be deployed throughout the campaign period.
SPR reminded voters to mark only one candidate on their ballot papers and urged all parties to adhere to election regulations to ensure a clean, fair and transparent electoral process.
The announcement leaves political parties with a relatively short window to finalise candidate selections and campaign strategies ahead of polling day, setting the stage for closely watched contests in both states. – The Capital Post.
