KOTA KINABALU, 6 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia co-chaired the 63rd Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) Consultative Council (FCC) Meeting, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening regional defence cooperation and security.
The meeting was jointly chaired by Defence Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali and Singapore’s Permanent Secretary (Defence) Joseph Leong at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu.
The council brought together senior representatives from Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the Headquarters Integrated Area Defence System (HQIADS).
As the highest decision-making platform within the FPDA governance structure, the FCC reviewed the progress of ongoing initiatives and discussed the strategic direction of defence cooperation to ensure the FPDA remains relevant and responsive to an increasingly complex regional security environment.

Discussions also focused on enhancing operational readiness, interoperability and capability development among FPDA member countries.
The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening the FPDA as a defence cooperation mechanism founded on consultation, mutual trust and shared strategic interests, while supporting long-term regional peace, stability and prosperity.
