KKR Moves to Accelerate Pahang Central Spine Road Project

LIPIS, Pahang, 12 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Works (KKR) is intensifying efforts to ensure the smooth implementation of the Central Spine Road (LTU) project in Pahang through closer coordination between the Federal Government, the state administration and implementing agencies.

The initiative was reinforced during the second 2026 Special Project Steering Committee (Task Force) meeting for the Pahang LTU project, held at the Lipis District and Land Office Operations Room and jointly chaired by Works Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim and Pahang State Secretary Dato Sri Nazri Abu Bakar.

According to a Facebook post by Kementerian Kerja Raya Malaysia, the meeting focused on identifying and recommending measures to expedite delayed project components, particularly those affected by poor contractor performance, while ensuring agreed decisions are implemented effectively.

Also present were Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and Development) Datuk Dr. Khairus Masnan Abdul Khalid, Public Works Department (JKR) Deputy Director-General (Infrastructure Sector) Ir. Mohd Shahrom Ahmad Saman, Lipis District Officer Dato’ Mohd Hafizi Ibrahim, JKR Pahang Director Dato’ Ir. Ts. Hafizah Zakaria, as well as senior officials from KKR, the Pahang State Government and related agencies.

The ministry reported encouraging progress across several sections of the LTU project. Section 3J, which stretches from Kampung Seberang Jelai to Kampung Relong, has achieved nearly 90 per cent physical completion and is expected to be completed soon. Meanwhile, Section 5A, known as the Raub Bypass, has been fully completed and opened to motorists.

To address ongoing delays in certain sections, KKR and JKR have directed contractors to implement recovery plans, including increasing manpower, machinery and equipment at project sites. Regular monitoring through progress meetings and site inspections is also being carried out to ensure critical remaining works are completed according to schedule.

The committee also reviewed land acquisition matters, project physical and financial performance, and proposals for extending the LTU network to further strengthen connectivity between the East Coast and West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

The ministry said the project is expected to enhance connectivity, improve logistics efficiency and create greater economic opportunities for communities along the corridor.
