PULAU LAYANG-LAYANG, 17 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Defence Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today conducted a working visit to the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (TLDM) Station LIMA on Pulau Layang-Layang to assess maritime border operations and the readiness of personnel stationed at the nation’s frontlines.
According to a Facebook post by Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Pulau Layang-Layang remains one of Malaysia’s strategic assets in the South China Sea and symbolises the government’s continued commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, security and interests.
He said Station LIMA, together with Stations MIKE, UNIFORM, SIERRA and PAPA, serves as the frontline of the country’s maritime defence network.
During the visit, Khaled also reviewed the welfare of military personnel serving far from the mainland and announced an allocation of RM300,000 to upgrade sports and recreational facilities at offshore stations.

He noted that Malaysia continues to strengthen its maritime monitoring capabilities through the deployment of radar assets and the ANKA Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to enhance maritime domain awareness amid increasingly complex security challenges.
“Pulau Layang-Layang will continue to be a symbol of Malaysia’s presence and sovereignty in the South China Sea. Sovereignty is maintained through constant presence, effective management and unwavering commitment,” he said.
The visit underscores the Ministry of Defence’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational readiness and ensure Malaysia’s strategic interests in the South China Sea remain protected. – The Capital Post
