BANGI, 30 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Transport has launched a new telematics initiative for commercial vehicles as part of efforts to enhance road safety through real-time monitoring of driving behaviour.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook officiated the launch at BSmart System Solutions Sdn. Bhd. in Bandar Baru Bangi.

The initiative is designed to strengthen the safety of commercial vehicle operations by utilising telematics technology capable of monitoring driving performance in real time, including vehicle speed, harsh braking, aggressive acceleration and driving hours.

The ministry said the initiative follows the successful Proof of Concept (POC) conducted in 2025, which demonstrated that telematics technology provides a more comprehensive safety solution than conventional GPS systems in reducing the risk of accidents involving heavy vehicles.

Implementation will be carried out in phases, beginning with a voluntary adoption and advocacy stage from 2026 to 2027, followed by the development of an integrated database in 2027. The system is expected to become a mandatory licensing requirement for commercial vehicles from 2028. – The Capital Post.
