Malaysia Showcases Counter-Extremism Model at UN

NEW YORK, 2 Julai 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia highlighted its expertise and holistic approach to preventing violent extremism during the Fourth United Nations High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Malaysian delegation, led by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) Deputy Secretary-General (Security), Dato’ Haji Abdul Halim Haji Abdul Rahman, played a key role in presenting the country’s strategic perspectives and reinforcing Malaysia’s commitment to global peace and security.

Malaysia was also invited to share its experience during Side Event 16, themed “Localized and Whole-of-Society Approaches in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.” Representing the country were KDN Public Security and Order Division Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Abidin and Principal Assistant Secretary Elina Roslim, who participated as panellists.

During the session, the Malaysian representatives highlighted the country’s success in strengthening youth resilience, fostering strategic community partnerships and implementing holistic reintegration programmes aimed at preventing violent extremism.

The presentation underscored growing international recognition of Malaysia’s whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to countering violent extremism, which integrates community engagement with national security strategies.
