BATU PAHAT, July 17, 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) has launched the OIL2RECYCLE Programme at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in Batu Pahat, Johor, to promote the collection and recycling of used cooking oil as part of Malaysia’s circular economy and sustainability agenda.

The programme was officiated by Minister of Plantation and Commodities, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad.

Implemented through a collaboration between KPK, UTHM and PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, the initiative aims to cultivate the practice of collecting used cooking oil (UCO) among university students and local communities while encouraging greater environmental awareness.

The ministry highlighted that used cooking oil should no longer be viewed as waste, as it can be processed into high-value products such as biodiesel, renewable fuels and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), supporting the growth of Malaysia’s sustainable energy industry.

Through the initiative, KPK reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic collaboration between the government, industry and higher education institutions in advancing green economic development and fostering a more environmentally conscious society.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Perladangan dan Komoditi – KPK, the OIL2RECYCLE Programme reflects ongoing efforts to promote sustainable resource management and accelerate the adoption of circular economy practices in Malaysia. – The Capital Post
