LANGKAWI, 23 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and Thailand have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation following the 2nd Task Force Meeting on Tourism Cooperation held in Langkawi on Tuesday.
Hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), the meeting was co-chaired by MOTAC Secretary-General Dato’ Shaharuddin bin Abu Sohot and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, H.E. Mrs. Natthira Phaengkhun.
The meeting reviewed the progress of initiatives under the Roadmap of Tourism Cooperation 2025–2027, with both countries assessing key milestones achieved since the roadmap was introduced.
Discussions also focused on enhancing regional connectivity and improving cross-border travel to facilitate seamless movement between Malaysia and Thailand, while supporting the continued growth of tourism in the region.
In addition, both sides emphasised the importance of developing a resilient and sustainable tourism sector, reflecting their shared commitment to long-term bilateral cooperation.

MOTAC said Thailand remains an important tourism market for Malaysia, adding that the ministry will continue working closely with relevant agencies to strengthen tourism ties and promote closer people-to-people connections between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by delegates from key government agencies, including representatives from the foreign affairs, home affairs, transport and immigration sectors, as well as Tourism Malaysia. The discussions reflected a shared vision of fostering a more connected and vibrant ASEAN tourism landscape.
