LANGKAWI, 23 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and the ASEAN–China Centre have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional tourism cooperation and cultural exchanges during a courtesy call held on the sidelines of the ASEAN–China Tourism Dialogue in Langkawi.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing received ASEAN–China Centre Secretary-General H.E. Zhang Lizhong as both sides discussed efforts to further enhance tourism collaboration between ASEAN member states and China.
During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing regional tourism cooperation while promoting closer cultural exchanges to support sustainable tourism growth.
The discussions also highlighted China’s continued importance as a key tourism market for the region. In 2025, ASEAN recorded 21.8 million visitor arrivals from China, representing a 6.9 per cent year-on-year increase.

Both sides also underscored the importance of strengthening ASEAN’s position as a safe, diverse and world-class destination for Chinese travellers.
Also present during the meeting were Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism) Chua Choon Hwa and Tourism Malaysia Director-General Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim.
