PUTRAJAYA, 29 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), together with its agencies including the Department of Veterinary Services and the Department of Fisheries, participated in the 2nd International Conference on Poultry and Fish Vaccinology and Diagnosis 2026 (2nd ICPoFiVD) organised by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
The conference focused on exploring innovative solutions by combining conventional approaches with the latest advancements in vaccine development, therapeutics, diagnostics and disease surveillance to address challenges in the livestock and aquaculture sectors.
YBhg. Datuk Seri Chief Secretary of KPKM was invited as the keynote speaker and delivered a speech titled “Animal Health: The Heart of Food Security”, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a stable, safe and nutritious food supply for the nation.
In his address, he stressed that the livestock and aquaculture sectors are facing increasingly complex challenges, including climate change impacts, intensive farming practices and the threat of animal disease outbreaks.
He emphasised that strengthening animal health is a critical component in enhancing the national agri-food system and ensuring sustainable food security for the future.

KPKM also highlighted its commitment to strengthening research and innovation as key drivers in improving Malaysia’s capability to develop animal vaccines, while leveraging digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data analytics to enhance disease surveillance systems.
These efforts are expected to strengthen the country’s biosecurity resilience, support sustainable food security and enhance the competitiveness of Malaysia’s livestock and aquaculture industries at the global level.
