KUALA LUMPUR, 29 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Fourth National Mineral Council Meeting (MMN Ke-4) focused on strengthening governance of the mineral sector, accelerating the development of critical minerals and enhancing strategic cooperation between the Federal and State Governments to ensure the country’s mineral resources are managed sustainably, competitively and generate greater economic value.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, YAB Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, was held at the Parliament Building, Kuala Lumpur.
Among the key matters discussed were strengthening mineral sector governance, the development of critical minerals, the rare earth elements (REE) industry, sustainable mining activities and policy coordination between the Federal and State Governments.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) YB Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Federal Ministers, Premiers, Chief Ministers and representatives from state governments.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim bin Syed Noh; Secretary-General of NRES YBhg. Datuk Wira Anis Rizana binti Mohd Zainudin; Deputy Secretary-General of NRES YBhg. Dato’ Khalid bin Mohamed; Director-General of the Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia YBhg. Datuk Zamri bin Ramli; and Director of Mineral and Geoscience Division Tuan Haji Shamsul Shahril Badliza bin Mohd Noor.

The MMN Ke-4 reflects the MADANI Government’s continuous commitment towards developing a sustainable, competitive and high-value mineral industry through close cooperation between the Federal and State Governments.
The initiative aims to ensure the country’s mineral wealth is optimally utilised to support national prosperity and the well-being of the people.
