RTS Link enters key testing phase ahead of operations

JOHOR BAHRU, 18 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link has entered a key phase of system integration, testing and commissioning as preparations continue ahead of passenger operations.

Transport Minister YB Loke Siew Fook conducted an inspection visit to the RTS Link Bukit Chagar Station and the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) Complex today to review the project’s progress and operational readiness.

All eight RTS Link trains have undergone testing. The first train has completed comprehensive testing to verify its performance and functions, while the other seven trains have completed routine testing to ensure they meet the required specifications and standards.

Meanwhile, critical systems including signalling, communications, power supply, platform screen doors and Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) are undergoing integration testing to ensure passenger journeys can be conducted safely, smoothly and reliably.

Operational readiness is also being strengthened through staff training and joint simulations involving agencies from Malaysia and Singapore. The exercises are aimed at ensuring personnel, processes and systems are fully prepared before passenger services begin.

Dato’ Seri Jana Santhiran Muniayan; Director-General of the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) YDH. CP Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily bin Mohd Zain; Chairman of RTS Operations Pte. Ltd. YBhg. Datuk Ir. Khairil Anwar Ahmad; MRT Corp Chief Executive Officer YBhg. Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim; and RTS Operations Pte. Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ahmad Marzuki Ariffin.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Ministry of Transport Malaysia, the ongoing testing and preparations are aimed at ensuring the RTS Link is fully integrated and ready to deliver safe and reliable cross-border mobility. – The Capital Post
