Budget 2027 Consultations Focus on Infrastructure and Road Safety

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Finance (MoF) held a consultation session with the Ministry of Works (KKR) on August 18 to review strategic proposals and priorities for the public works and national infrastructure sectors under Budget 2027.

The session was attended by Finance Minister II Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Works Minister Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Maslan.

Discussions focused on strengthening public infrastructure and the construction industry, including ensuring the safety, well-being and comfort of highway users nationwide remain key priorities.

The session also examined efforts to prepare a future workforce with the skills and adaptability required to meet changing construction practices, particularly as the industry increasingly adopts digitalisation, automation and smart technologies.

Attention was also given to measures to address traffic congestion and road maintenance complaints, including the need to accelerate repairs following natural disasters such as floods and landslides, as well as the repair and replacement of ageing infrastructure, including bridges and deteriorating buildings.

The consultation is part of the Budget 2027 preparation process, which adopts a comprehensive, priority-based approach that takes into account national development needs and public interest to ensure government allocations deliver optimal impact.

Also present were Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican, KKR Secretary-General Dato’ Seri Azman Ibrahim, senior MoF and KKR officials, and members of the Budget 2027 team.
