PUTRAJAYA, 15 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is refining the implementation and governance of international carbon credit trading as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s climate action and carbon market framework.
The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES), through its Climate Change Division (BPI), held a retreat on Monday (14 September) to discuss the implementation and direction of the proposed National Climate Change Bill (RUUPIN).
The programme focused particularly on international carbon credit trading and the mechanisms required to support Malaysia’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.
Deputy Secretary-General (Environmental Sustainability) YBhg. Datuk Nor Yahati Awang attended the session, which included a presentation by BPI on the latest developments in Malaysia’s carbon market.

The presentation also covered projects and mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which forms part of the framework for international cooperation on climate action.
The retreat provided a platform to examine implementation, governance and the future direction of international carbon credit trading as Malaysia continues to develop its national carbon market framework.
