KUCHING, 18 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The RM431 million Petra Jaya Hospital project in Sarawak has entered its final phase, with finishing works and medical equipment testing underway at the 300-bed facility.
Deputy Health Minister YB Dato Hajjah Hanifah Hajar Taib visited the project site to inspect its physical progress and construction status.
During the visit, she was briefed by Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) Construction Director at the Public Works Department (JKR) headquarters, YBhg. Dato’ Ir. Jasmi bin Wahab, on the latest progress and status of the project.
Hanifah later toured the site with main contractor project manager Encik Ahmad Safwan bin Ab Aziz to inspect finishing works and the installation of medical equipment.
Among the facilities inspected were MRI and CT scan machines, as well as operating theatre facilities.

Hanifah called for all parties involved to work together to accelerate the remaining construction works so that Petra Jaya Hospital can be completed and become fully operational.
Once operational, the hospital is expected to support medical services provided by Kuching General Hospital and improve access to quality, equitable and efficient healthcare services for Sarawakians.
Also present were Health Ministry Senior Undersecretary of the Development Division YBhg. Datin Paduka Roslinah binti Md. Jani and senior officials from the Health Ministry, Sarawak State Health Department and Public Works Department.
