KUALA LUMPUR, 21 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is looking to unlock greater economic value from its palm oil biomass after generating about 99.43 million tonnes on a dry-weight basis in 2025, with the resource offering potential for renewable energy, sustainable aviation fuel and other high-value products.
Plantation and Commodities Minister YB Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad highlighted the potential when officiating the 6th International Palm Biomass Conference 2026 at Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, today.
Themed “Palm Biomass: Driving Global Circular Bioeconomy and Sustainability”, the conference provides a platform to explore how palm biomass can support the development of a circular bioeconomy and Malaysia’s sustainability agenda.
Palm biomass can potentially be utilised to produce renewable energy, organic fertilisers, biochemicals, nanocellulose, biocomposites and engineered palm wood.
It can also serve as feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and second-generation biofuels.

The Plantation and Commodities Ministry (KPK) is seeking to strengthen the commercialisation of biomass technologies through strategic collaboration involving the government, research institutions, industry players and financial institutions.
The ministry said such cooperation could help establish sustainable value chains, create new economic opportunities and generate benefits for smallholders and local communities.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, palm biomass has significant potential to support Malaysia’s circular bioeconomy while advancing the country’s sustainability agenda. – The Capital Post
