KUALA LUMPUR, 6 November 2026 (The Capital Post) – Google has announced plans to invest US$15 billion in Malaysia between 2027 and 2028 to expand digital infrastructure, strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and support local economic growth.
The investment was announced during the Mantap Malaysia Bersama AI programme at Universiti Malaya on 4 November, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo also attended the programme, which highlighted Google’s plans to expand its presence in Malaysia through infrastructure development, workforce training and technological innovation.
According to the Ministry of Digital, the investment is projected to contribute an average of US$1.1 billion annually to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) during the construction phase.
The development is also expected to support more than 37,000 local jobs annually throughout construction, while sustaining over 9,000 jobs per year once the facilities become operational.
Beyond infrastructure development, Google has committed to equipping 800,000 Malaysians with AI-related skills by 2031.
The training initiatives will target Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students, educators, civil servants and small business entrepreneurs to improve digital capabilities across various sectors.
