HANGZHOU, 4 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Alibaba has reinforced its position in the global artificial intelligence (AI) race by unveiling significant advancements across its AI ecosystem during the first half of 2026, including new foundation models, organisational restructuring and expanded cloud infrastructure to support growing enterprise demand.

The technology giant said its latest initiatives are aimed at strengthening long-term, responsible AI adoption as businesses move beyond experimentation towards large-scale deployment of AI-powered solutions.

As part of its AI strategy, Alibaba established the Alibaba Token Hub (ATH) Business Group in March under Chief Executive Officer Eddie Wu. The new unit consolidates the company’s major AI research, model development and innovation teams, including Tongyi Laboratory, the Qwen Business Unit and the Wukong Business Unit, under a unified mission to develop and commercialise AI technologies.

Alibaba also introduced several next-generation AI models during the first half of the year. These include Qwen3.7-Max, a large language model designed for advanced reasoning, coding and complex task execution; HappyHorse 1.1, an upgraded AI video generation model; and HappyOyster 1.0, an interactive world model developed to support immersive digital content creation.

The company further expanded its AI ecosystem through enhancements to its Qwen App, which integrates services across Taobao, Alipay, Fliggy and Amap into a unified AI assistant, alongside the launch of Qwen Glasses and the enterprise-focused Wukong Platform for autonomous business operations.

To support growing global demand for AI services, Alibaba expanded its cloud infrastructure with new data centres in Japan, Malaysia, France and Mexico as part of its US$53 billion AI infrastructure investment. Alibaba Cloud now operates 105 availability zones across 32 regions, providing secure and scalable cloud services while complying with local data governance and cybersecurity requirements.

Beyond technology development, Alibaba continues to expand AI applications across key industries. Its DAMO Academy recently introduced AI-powered screening tools for the early detection of fatty liver disease and colorectal cancer, while its partnership with China’s Muyuan Group is leveraging AI to enhance livestock farming through intelligent feed management, breeding and operational efficiency.

The company said these initiatives demonstrate its commitment to delivering practical AI solutions that generate value for businesses and consumers while supporting innovation across healthcare, agriculture and enterprise services.

According to a statement by Alibaba, the company will continue building on its first-half achievements by accelerating AI innovation, expanding its global infrastructure and driving the next phase of AI-powered growth across international markets. – The Capital Post.
