Shamsuddin Dahlan, 52, and his two sons, Mohd Husaini, 18 and Mohd Syazwan, 17, are all fishermen.

The trio, who are from Kampung Masjid in the Bintulu district, were said to have gone out to sea in their boat at noon on Tuesday (Nov 26).

Their family lodged a police report in Bintulu town at 9am on Wednesday (Nov 27) after the trio failed to return home.

They are feared to have lost their way in the open seas or are facing engine woes, said Sarawak Bomba in its latest updates.

“Attempts by the family to contact the trio using their handphones failed.

“The family said there is a possibility that their boat may be facing engine problems and is drifting in the sea,” it said.

The search team is combing the area off the coast of Bintulu as well as the coral reefs further in the ocean.

The operation is being carried out by personnel from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the Marine Police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
