SEREMBAN: A member of Amanah will be made the Negri Sembilan legislative assembly Speaker, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

The Mentri Besar said the post of the Deputy Speaker has been reserved for a candidate from PKR.

“We have not finalised who will be Speaker but we have agreed in principle that the post will be given to Amanah.

“We will allow Amanah to propose the candidate and then present it to Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir for the Ruler’s consent,” he told reporters after the chairing the state exco meeting on Wednesday (Aug 30).

Aminuddin, who is the state Pakatan Harapan chief, said the choice of Speaker also needs to be endorsed by the assembly.

In the previous state government, the post was held by Amanah’s Datuk Zulkefly Mohamed Omar while his deputy was Datuk M Ravi from PKR.

This time around, the post is likely to go to either Klawang assemblyman and former state exco Datuk Bakri Sawir or state Amanah chief Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman.

The Speaker need not necessarily be an assemblyman while the deputy has to be, according to state law.

Amanah had two exco members in the previous state government. However, when the new lineup was announced last week, it did not get any.

The post of deputy Speaker will either go to Sri Tanjung assemblyman G Rajasekaran or Chuah’s Yew Boon Lye.
