Kuching, 22 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim joined the multi-ethnic community in Sarawak for a dinner event celebrating Gawai Dayak, reaffirming the importance of unity, cultural harmony and continued federal–state cooperation.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Prime Minister, the celebration was also attended by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Anwar said that since leading the MADANI government, he has made it a priority to attend both Gawai Dayak and Kaamatan celebrations annually, describing Gawai Dayak as a symbol of unity in diversity and a reflection of Sarawak’s multicultural strength. He highlighted the “Segulai Sejalai” spirit as a key element in strengthening harmony and understanding among the state’s diverse communities.
The Prime Minister also noted that the MADANI administration has implemented several long-standing initiatives under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which had previously remained unresolved. While some matters require careful negotiation, he said progress has been made through trust-based engagement between the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government.
He further highlighted the handover of the Bintulu Port to the Sarawak government as a significant milestone, reflecting confidence in the state’s ability to manage strategic assets effectively.

Anwar also reiterated Sarawak’s strong potential as a future leader in the energy and economic sector, adding that he has consistently promoted the state’s capabilities during engagements with international leaders and industry players, including recent visits to Russia, Turkmenistan and Japan.
On the relationship between PETRONAS and PETROS, the Prime Minister said both sides are in agreement that outstanding issues must be resolved fairly and amicably, emphasising the importance of collaboration between the two entities in advancing both Sarawak and Malaysia’s interests.
He added that the Federal Government remains committed to Sarawak’s development, stressing that both governments are working as one team to ensure continued progress and shared prosperity.
Anwar concluded by extending Gawai Dayak greetings to all celebrating, wishing prosperity, unity and harmony to the people of Sarawak.- The Capital Post
