Covid-19 cases down 3.2% to 13,627 in past week

PETALING JAYA: The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped from 14,072 to 13,627 – or 3.2% – last week from the week before, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending Sept 18, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 and 2 went down by 6.7% per 100,000 from the preceding week, while the number of admissions involving Category 3,4 and 5 patients remained unchanged.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical beds reduced by 1%, while intensive care unit (ICU) beds decreased by 2%.

The bed occupancy rate in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres also went down by 2%.

Active cases dropped during the week by 4.1% to 26,378.

“Recoveries dropped by 16% from 17,286 cases to 14,513,” Noor Hisham said.

“The number of deaths decreased by 8.8% from 34 to 31, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,308.”

He said 4,817,251 Covid-19 cases had been recorded in the country since January 2020.-FMT
